ki jaana mai kaun

Baba Bulleh Shah's qafi, Bulle Ki Jaana Main Kaun, is his typical view of the world. He sees the common underlying reality that lies beneath the mundane, and rejoices in its all pervasiveness. This concept is similar to the monotheistic, omnipresent concept of God that we come across in Sikhism and the Upanishads.

Here are the lyrics with translation of Baba Bulleh Shah’s qafiBulla ki jaana main kaun. Although the original qafi has verses in different order, this is Rabbi Shergill’s version. He has rearranged some verses although he missed none.

Bulla ki Jaana Main Kaun…!

Bulla ki jaana main kaun "Bulla, who knows who I am!"

Na main arabi na Lahori I am not an arab, I am not from Lahore (Baba Bulle Shah spent a lot of time in Lahore, he believed in one world and feels he belongs to His world and not to Lahore which is a man made boundary)

Na main hindi shehar Nagaori I am neither Indian (Hindi here refers to Indian, from Hindustan) and nor from Nagaor (a city in Rajasthan, near Alwar)

Na koi dooja hor pacchana I do not recognize any other (referring to the saints and prophets)

Maithon na koi hor syana And no one is more wise or intelligent than me

Bulle Shah Kharha hai kaun Baba Bulle Shah asks himself "Who is this standing Bulleh Shah, who is asking me who am I?"

Bulla ki jaana main kaun Bulleh Shah, I do not know who I am.

Bulle Shah Kharha hai kaun "Who is this standing Bulleh Shah, who is asking me who am I?"

Bulla, ki jaana main kaun "Bulla, who knows who I am!"

Bulla, ki jaana main kaun "Bulla, who knows who I am!"

picture of perfect peace

There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror, for peaceful towering mountains were all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky from which rain fell and in which lightening played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest... perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize?

The King chose the second picture. Do you know why? "Because," explained the King, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."

you are strong

You Are....
You are strong...
when you take your grief and teach it to smile.

You are brave...
when you overcome your fear and help others to do the same.

You are happy...
when you see a flower and are thankful for the blessing.

You are loving...
when your own pain does not blind you to the pain of others.

You are wise...
when you know the limits of your wisdom.

You are true...
when you admit there are times you fool yourself.

You are alive...
when tomorrow's hope means more to you than yesterday's mistake.

You are growing...
when you know what you are but not what you will become.

You are free...
when you are in control of yourself and do not wish to control others.

You are honorable...
when you find your honor is to honor others.

You are generous...
when you can take as sweetly as you can give.

You are humble...
when you do not know how humble you are.

You are thoughtful...
when you see me just as I am and treat me just as you are.

You are merciful...
when you forgive in others the faults you condemn in yourself.

You are beautiful...
when you don't need a mirror to tell you.

You are rich...
when you never need more than what you have.

You are you...
when you are at peace with who you are not.

poem to God by Anupama

Please be with me when I want to cry
Please be with me when I want to try

Please be with when I want to touch the sky
Please be with me when I have to lie

Please be with me when I'm losing sense
Please be with me darkness get more dense

Please be with me to hold me back when I 'm going wrong
Please be with me when I need to get more strong....
